J. L. J was born in Lufkin, TX and at the age of three years old he became a native of Houston, TX where he has spent his whole life and still resides today. Music has always been a passion for the gifted artist starting from the tender age of 16 he would break curfew on school nights to attend the local talent show at the neighborhood night club. Wanting to turn the dream into a reality, J. L. J continued spitting rhymes getting better and better at it and also getting smarter about the music business at the same time. Fast forward to adulthood, J. L. J began recording and releasing his own mix tapes in the streets and during that time is when he decided to never sign with or be anyone's artist.
Later in life J. L. J teamed up with his good friend and label mate 'D' Sheezy to form E-lete Artist Records and accomplished the task of being a CEO of his own record label doing things his own way. In 2007 things began to turn away from music after getting married and having two kids life became very real for the aspiring lyricist. So it came to be that in 2011 J. L. J dropped his last album and then everything begin to crumble for him following that year. In a series of unfortunate events, the Houston native went through everything from going broke and getting divorced by 2014 to living in a shelter with his four kids by the end of 2018.
With prayer, hope and by the grace of all things good J. L. J has now returned and better than ever before. It's been eleven years since we heard the sweet lyrics of the Down South artist in our eardrums. Being away for so long J. L. J says his return is a debut because this version of him is being released for the first time and fans don't know what to expect. When asked what makes you come back J. L. J replied, "I didn't wanna lay on my death bed asking myself what if".
